Frequently asked questions.

What is a doula?

A doula is a professional trained to provide education, practical & emotional support to parents in the perinatal period.

What does a postpartum doula do?

Postpartum doulas provide support to parents by helping them feel comfortable & confident as they welcome their baby into their lives.

Click “Postpartum Doula” for a detailed look at what practical, educational and emotional support for families looks like after birth.

How can I become a postpartum doula with CDA?

Apply to be a CDA postpartum doula by filling out the form linked below. Applicants will interview with 1 or 2 members of our board of directors to connect and ensure our values are aligned.

Are CDA doula services really free for clients?

YES! Every client of Community Doula Access receives care at absolutely no cost to the client.

How many hours of care does a family receive?

Each family receives 20 hours of in-home postpartum care to be scheduled at their convenience (typically 4 shifts of 3 hours).

At the end of the 20 hours, it is possible for care to be extended if there is a need, and if funding and doula availability allow.

How is CDA funded?

Community Doula Access is a registered charity that is funded through a combination of grants and individual donations.

If you are an individual looking to support our work, please consider making a donation! (you will receive a tax receipt).

What happens with my donation?

Grants and donations are primarily used to pay for professional postpartum doula care for low and middle-income families. A small portion of funds go towards administrative costs.

Can I make an in-kind donation, instead of cash?

No, we do not currently accept in-kind donations.

However, St. Mary’s Home, which supports young parents and their children, does accept in-kind donations for new and gently-used infant gear/goods.
